Bio Matter
Like I said on the home page, I write novels, short stories, and comics.
In 1988 I went to
Clarion (the original one, Clarion East) and wrote a story there that became my first sale. Over
the years I've been a high school English teacher, a telecom trainer (it's
hard to explain), and a technical writer.
These days I spend my mornings as a web guy, writing .net code at Minitab Inc.,
a statistical software company. In the afternoons I sit around in coffee shops
and write
fiction.
My first novel, Pandemonium,
was published by Del Rey Books in 2008, and won the 2009 Crawford Award, and was
nominated for several other awards, including the World Fantasy Award and the
Shirley Jackson Award. My
second novel, The Devil's Alphabet, was named
by Publisher's Weekly as one of the best books of 2009, and was nominated for
the Philip K. Dick Award. My third novel, Raising
Stony Mayhall, will be published in June, 2011.
I'm new to writing comics. So far, I have two ongoing series published by BOOM!
Studios. Dracula: Company of Monsters,
co-written with Kur Busiek, with art by Scott Godlewski and Damien Couceiro, has
been running since August, 2010. Planet of the Apes,
written by me with art by Carlos Magno, first appeared in April, 2011.
My short stories have appeared in multiple "year's best" anthologies, in both
science fiction and fantasy. My story "Second Person, Present Tense" won the
Asimov's Magazine Reader's Choice Award and was nominated for a Sturgeon Award.
It's a good life, especially because of the people next to me in
this picture./p>
That woman next to me is Kathy Bieschke, Ph.D., a psychologist and professor of counseling psychology at Penn State University. As
her spouse, I get 50% off on all my counseling sessions with her.
Next to
her is Emma Catherine Bieschke Gregory, singer / swing dancer, nutritionist in the
making.
Affectionately hugging the railing is Ian Bieschke Gregory, voracious reader,
thespian, trumpeter, mad gamer, and comedian. He is currently about three feet
taller than in this photo. I gotta get a new picture up here.
We all live in State College, Pennsylvania. It's woodsy.
Oh, and I'm represented by Martha Millard of the
Martha
Millard Literary Agency, and I'm a member of the Science
Fiction Writers of America. I was told I should mention those things.
